It is time to take a look at the player ratings of the Premier League clash between Tottenham and Manchester City.
Tottenham received a visit from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the Premier League entertainment on Saturday. This was a golden chance for Jose Mourinho’s men to take the lead in the English top-flight. And as a matter of fact, the north London side went into this game with three consecutive wins after a disappointing draw with West Ham.
With Guardiola’s new contract in mind, we all expected his fresh managerial effect at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. But the exact opposite happened, as the home side took the lead in the first five minutes of the game. The South Korean has hardly let his manager down this season along with his crime partner Harry Kane. Though, it was not him this time as Tanguy Ndombele’s ball over the top of City defenders was calmly finished by Son Heung-Min.
Lo Celso earns Mourinho’s respect with his goal.
City kept on applying pressure with their usual tactics. With a massive possession of 66 percent, along with 22 total shots, Guardiola’s side dominated most parts of the match. However, we have to give credits to the Tottenham defense. Despite rapid attempts from what looked like a deadly City side, they could not go past Hugo Lloris & co. The French goalkeeper made brilliant saves to deny the likes of Ferran Torres, Rodri, and even Ruben Dias.
But a swift Spurs counter-play saw Kane run across the field to thread a pass to the freshly entered Giovani Lo Celso. The Argentinian drove a low shot past the helpless Ederson in Man City’s goal to make it 2-0 for the hosts. Notable names of players lacked performance for Guardiola’s side. This victory takes Tottenham to the top of the English league for now ahead of Chelsea.
