Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was the place where this crunch Premier League match against Liverpool took place. We got player ratings.
Before tonight’s game, Jose Mourinho was trying to get into Liverpool players’ minds in Tottenham’s favor. He knew that he needed to do everything he could in order to get a victory against the Reds. Despite their recent form, this squad still has that winning mentality and champions’ attitude. In North London, the Spurs were ready to receive the visit from the reigning Premier League champions.
From the start of the game, it appeared as if the game would be balanced with both sides displaying interesting moments. But the visitors struck first through a Mane/Firmino connection right before half-time. The Brazilian striker scored that initial goal and gave Jurgen Klopp’s squad the confidence they needed in the second half. It was an exciting match that was definitely living up to the expectations.
Klopp wins the tactical game against Mourinho.
After the break, Trent Alexander-Arnold managed to rifle a shot that gave Liverpool the 0-2 lead within minutes from the whistle. However, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg managed to score an absolute belter from outside the box to give the Spurs a little hope. During half-time, Mourinho got the news of Harry Kane stepping out of the game with ankle problems. This was the deciding factor that played against Tottenham for the rest of the match.
Without their star player, they weren’t able to compete at the same level against Liverpool. Hojbjerg’s goal gave some hope to the locals and even VAR helped them disallow a Mo Salah goal. But the inevitable happened later in the second half through Sadio Mane. The Senegal international fired Liverpool back to the Top 4 with his side’s third goal of the evening. It was an exciting night at Tottenham’s stadium that reminded us Liverpool is still in the race.
