Ace Football presents a detailed list of the best players to have starred for the Harambee Stars.

Despite never becoming a top-class African national team, Kenya has consistently remained as a powerful force in the east of the continent.

As it is with every successful team, goalkeepers have been fundamental to the Harambee Stars’ most significant achievements.

Let’s take a look at our picks for the best Kenyan goalkeepers of all time.

3- Francis Onyiso

Onyiso started his club career by joining Nakuru in 1995. His performances convinced the Harambee Stars to call him up for the national team only two years later.

He went on to make 74 appearances for Kenya, which is the most among all the Kenya keepers in history. The former Green Rovers star also represented the Harambee Stars in the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations.

After his retirement, Onyiso went on to become Ulinzi Stars’ goalkeeper trainer.

2- Duncan Ochieng

Ochieng started his career by joining Mathare United in 1994. Despite spending short spells at other clubs, he spent most of his club career at the Nairobi side.

His performances for Mathare convinced the Harambee Stars to make him their number one goalkeeper in 1997. He went on to make 43 caps for Kenya during his time with the national team.

His clean sheet against Sudan in the 2013 CECAFA Cup final was vital to Kenya’s title-winning campaign.

It was the second time he won the East African trophy with Kenya, the first one being in 2002. Onyiso also won two Kenyan Premier League titles during his spells at Mathare United and Tusker.

Abbas does not have many close contenders when it comes to the best Kenyan goalkeepers of all time.

The legendary AFC Leopard keeper was an undisputed starter for the Harambee Stars during the 1980s. Abbas was famous for his incredible reflexes and penalty saves.

The Mombasa-born keeper won three CECAFA trophies with the Leopards, establishing his name as one of their greatest-ever stars. He also won back-to-back league titles with Ingwe in 1981 and 1982.
