A host of exciting transfer opportunities are tempting clubs all over Europe to start negotiating with their targets this January.

The allure of free transfers sparks excitement and anticipation among clubs and fans alike. The idea of prizing away transfer targets for free is not limited to clubs with financial issues. Even the wealthiest clubs are constantly monitoring the market for free deals.

According to the FIFA rules, players can enter direct negotiations with other clubs in the final six months of their contracts. As the January transfer window looms closer, let’s take a look at the best players who are set to become free agents next summer.

Best 2024 Free Agents

Kylian Mbappe tops our list of the best players whose contracts are set to expire at the beginning of the summer transfer window. The Frenchman is heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, but Paris Saint-Germain still hope to avoid a free move by completing another surprise contract extension.

Next up, we have Real Madrid’s iconic midfield pair, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, who will be available to leave Santiago Bernabeu for free next summer. Offers from Saudi Arabia and MLS are expected to be arriving for both players while staying at Real Madrid is also not ruled out.

Manchester United’s Aaron Wan Bissaka will technically be in the last six months of his contract after January. However, United are expected to either extend the defender’s current deal or, at least, activate a one-year option to keep him at the club for another year.
