Sandro Tonali sealed other doors and set his mind on a move to AC Milan the moment he learnt of their interest in him.
Sandro Tonali continues to speak on how he couldn’t say no to his boyhood club.
The 20-year-old has become one of the brightest talents to emerge from Italian football over the past few seasons.
It was only a matter of time until a big move was imminent. For a player like Tonali, it was obvious a lot of clubs would queue for his signature.
Inter initially looked poised to sign the youngster and reports even claimed Brescia already had a deal agreed in place.
Just at the last minute, Milan came into the picture and Tonali joined the Rossoneri on an initial-loan deal with a €35m obligation to buy.
The talented midfielder reveals a move to Inter was close but he couldn’t say no to his boyhood club.
“More or less everyone supports Milan where I’m from, including my father, who passed that passion onto me as a kid,” Tonali said as quoted by Goal.
“I’ve wanted to wear this jersey for a while. I didn’t speak much to Massimo Cellino [Brescia president], but he realized straight away what it meant to me. He said he’d let me make my choice and he kept his word.
“I asked him to make this effort for me and he was super about it. When I realised there was this opportunity to join Milan, I closed all the other doors. I had to go to Milan. I had to.
“My agent did most of the negotiating with Inter, so he quite rightly left me out of it so I wouldn’t get distracted. As soon as I heard about Milan, and he knew that I supported them, we talked and I let him get to work.”
