After 19 years under Roman Abramovich, a US-based consortium is now at the helm of the London club.

New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly insists his vision for the club is to make the fans proud.

The Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital consortium officially completed the purchase of Chelsea on Monday, bringing an end to Roman Abramovich’s 19-year spell at the helm.

The takeover will cost £4.25 billion in total. £2.5 billion will go towards the sale of the club, while a further £1.75 billion will be invested over a 10-year period.

‘We want to make the fans proud’

The sale process started on March 2, had over 250 inquiries, and saw 11 serious bidders rival the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital consortium.

“We are honored to become the new custodians of Chelsea Football Club,” Boehly said in a statement.

“We’re all in – 100% – every minute of every match. Our vision as owners is clear: we want to make the fans proud.

“Along with our commitment to developing the youth squad and acquiring the best talent, our plan of action is to invest in the club for the long term and build on Chelsea’s remarkable history of success.

“I personally want to thank ministers and officials in the British government, and the Premier League, for all their work in making this happen.”

The £2.5 billion selling fee is set go to a humanitarian charity to help the victims after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
