Newcastle strike a club-record deal for La Liga striker

The Magpies have agreed a deal to sign Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak for a club-record transfer fee of around £60million (€71.2m)

The agreement will eclipse the €44 million fee Newcastle paid to sign Joelinton from Hoffenheim in 2019 and the €42 million it cost to acquire Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon in January.

Isak’s move to St. James’ park is thought to be imminent. The 22-year-old Swede is one of the biggest young attacking prospects in Europe. He was linked to Arsenal and Barcelona earlier in the year. [The Athletic – subscription required]

Man Utd close in on deal for Antony

Manchester United are confident of securing a deal to sign Ajax forward Antony before the summer transfer window shuts on September 1.

The Red Devils have somewhat cooled their interest in PSV Eindhoven attacker Cody Gakpo. Their priority is to sign Antony. The 22-year-old Brazilian’s agents are in London trying to sort out a deal.

United and Ajax are discussing a transfer fee of around €94 million at the moment. [The Athletic – subscription required]

Pepe to leave Arsenal on loan

Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe is on course to join Ligue 1 club OGC Nice on a season-long loan.

The 27-year-old Ivorian is set to travel to France to undergo a medical after the two clubs agreed on a deal. The agreement does not include an obligation or option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season.

Man Utd submit loan offer for Newcastle goalkeeper

Manchester United have submitted a loan offer for Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

Manager Erik ten Hag hopes to sign a new shot-stopper before next week’s transfer deadline to provide cover and competition for current No.1 David de Gea.

Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi is in talks with Galatasaray over a potential loan move.
