Bayern Munich’s outgoing manager, Thomas Tuchel, remains unperturbed by a fan petition urging him to stay at the club, despite the petition garnering over 14,000 signatures since its inception on Tuesday.
Tuchel and Bayern mutually agreed to part ways at the end of the season in February, following a string of three defeats and the club’s failure to clinch the Bundesliga title for the first time in 12 seasons.
Despite their domestic setback, Bayern’s journey to the Champions League semifinals, where they ousted Premier League leaders Arsenal, has prompted discontent among some fans over the reported frontrunner for the managerial position, Ralf Rangnick.
Austria men’s national team coach Rangnick confirmed earlier this week that Bayern had contacted him about the role but remained non-committal. The fan petition, titled “We want Juppel [Tuchel] and not Rangnick!,” has rapidly gained traction, emphasizing Tuchel’s prowess as a Champions League coach and his potential to lead Bayern to success, particularly with the 2025 Champions League final slated for the Allianz Arena.
In response to the fan fervor, Tuchel maintained his focus on football ahead of Bayern’s upcoming clash with Eintracht Frankfurt, dismissing the distraction of managerial speculation. “Whether it’s pleasant or unpleasant, I don’t allow myself to be influenced by it,” Tuchel asserted, emphasizing the importance of concentration in the final stretch of the season.
Meanwhile, Bayern’s honorary president, Uli Hoeness, indicated that a decision on the club’s next manager would be reached “within a week,” as reported by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper.
With the first leg of Bayern’s Champions League semifinal against Real Madrid looming, the club faces a critical juncture in their managerial transition. Tuchel’s tenure may be drawing to a close, but the clamor of supporters underscores the weight of expectations at Bayern Munich.
