The Blues boss expects a thrilling battle at Wembley but admits his side are not the favourites to claim the title.

Chelsea will face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday. The two sides won their last week’s Champions League games with similar 2-0 results against Lille and Inter.

The Blues have already won their first trophy of the season, having bagged the Club World Cup earlier this month. For Liverpool, however, it can be their first EFL Cup win since 2012.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are on a nine-game winning streak, a brilliant form that has convinced Thomas Tuchel that their opponents have a better chance of winning the final.

Speaking in a pre-match press conferece, Chelsea’s manager said (via beIN Sports): “They are the favourites, because of their recent form and their recent results.

“It’s a big challenge, a big occasion, and we feel competitive. It’s a pleasure to meet Jurgen in a final at Wembley. We are very grateful for the chance.

He added: “Playing against teams coached by Jurgen is not only about pleasure, because they give you a very hard time!

“But we have things to draw on, we have experienced tight matches against Liverpool, I think the last three were draws.

“That won’t happen this time, there will be a winner somehow, but we know what it takes in a tough match against them, and we feel confident that we have what it takes.

“It’s the same for them, and it’s nice to have a match like this in a final.”

Tuchel has struggled to form a solid attacking unit around Romelu Lukaku this season. He dropped the Belgian from his lineup for the game against Lille, which resulted in a more fluid performance upfront.

By the time of writing this, the bookmakers are on the same page with Tuchel, favouring the Reds to win their first trophy of the season.
