The England international has arrived at Stamford Bridge on the back of a successful spell at Man City.
Thomas Tuchel has backed Raheem Sterling to ‘shape Chelsea’ after his move from Manchester City.
Sterling ended his seven-year spell at Etihad to join Chelsea on a £50m move ahead of the next season. He has already flown to the US to join his new teammates in their pre-season tour, becoming the Blues’ first major signing this summer.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Tuchel expressed his excitement over Sterling’s arrival.
“Hopefully, he shapes our team by just being who he is. He will be a huge asset for us.
“For me, he is a huge player, with a huge influence in the last years in English football and he’s in a perfect age to now take responsibility around young players that we have and be an example.
“Getting what he delivered for years given his age, his hunger for responsibility, and his style of play and his amount of intensity is outstanding.
“It is the benchmark in the Premier League and is exactly what we need.”
Sterling scored 131 goals and provided 94 assists in his 337 appearances for the Citizens. Unlike his time at City, he will become a major focal point in Chelsea’s attacking line next season.
Sterling’s arrival has also convinced Chelsea to stop pursuing a move for Cristiano Ronaldo. According to The Athletic, Tuchel is keen to cover for Romelu Lukaku’s departure by forming a new attacking unit around the former Man City star.
