The German manager says he is happy to coach the Blues but admits the club’s situation is changing every day.
The UK government officially added Chelsea owner Roma Abramovich to its sanction list on Thursday. The Russian oligarch will not be able to use his assets in the country while Chelsea faces several restrictions.
The Blues will continue playing under a special license, but they cannot sell tickets and merchandise. The new development has also reinforced rumours around Thomas Tuchel’s potential exit at the end of the season.
Liverpool legend Jaimie Carragher tipped United to make a move to sign Tuchel in his column for Telegraph. However, the German manager says he is happy at Stamford Bridge.
“I don’t know if I’m concerned, but we’re aware of it – and it changes almost every day,” Tuchel said (via Sky Sports).
“We can’t do much about it, I’m still happy to be here and manager of a strong football team. I’m happy to play the match today, I know there’s a lot of noise around but we try our best to focus on football.“
He added: “It’s a big change from yesterday to today, but we can’t influence it and we didn’t cause the situation. In the moment, it seems like business is more or less well protected, football wise, but let’s see – it could change tomorrow.
“It’s not a relief, I feel privileged to have the chance to be involved in games and coaching and that’s what we can do.”
Chelsea will have to face a much-improved Newcastle side in their next Premier League. Until now, the Blues have remained unfazed about the club’s changing situation.
However, the severity of the new sanctions and players’ uncertainty over their contract situations might start to affect their performance in the coming weeks.
