The Ghana international has had to settle for a place on the bench in Arsenal’s last two games.

Thomas Partey is ‘really happy’ to see Jorginho’s hard work pay off, describing his Arsenal teammate as the ‘best at training’ over the past few weeks.

The 29-year-old has been a constant figure in the Arsenal midfield this season. His performances helped establish a title challenge for Mikel Arteta’s side. However, in the wins over Chelsea and Newcastle, he started from the bench, with Jorginho replacing him in the line-up.

The 31-year-old, who arrived from Chelsea in January for £12 million, delivered a Man-of-the-Match performance in last weekend’s 2-0 win at Newcastle.

“For me, it is something that always happened. I have always had competition, which is good for me. I enjoy it,” Partey told the Evening Standard.

“I am really happy for him [Jorginho] because, for a couple of weeks, he was the best at training and then at the end you see that in the game. I am really happy for him and also happy that every player is ready to step in, so nobody is able to sleep.

“The purpose of the club is to create competition and that helps the club to grow more, and also pushes us to be able to give our best in the game.

“I think it is good. Anytime you have good competition, with no problems, it is the best way to achieve what you want to achieve. This is easy because everyone is ready to give their best.”
