The Bayern Munich star, like many football fans, would love to have seen Cristiano Ronaldo join Lionel Messi at PSG.

Thomas Muller would’ve liked to have seen Cristiano Ronaldo partner Lionel Messi at Paris Saint-Germain as a replacement for Kylian Mbappe.

The two stars have made shock summer moves away from their respective clubs. Ronaldo sealed a famous return to Manchester United from Juventus on Friday, while Messi joined PSG earlier this month after a 21-year spell at Barcelona.

Many fans, though, had hoped Ronaldo would join Messi at PSG instead so the old rivals could play together across the final years of their careers.

“If Kylian Mbappe is still going [from PSG], then I would have liked to see Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi play together,” Muller told Sky Sports after helping Bayern Munich beat Hertha BSC 5-0 on Saturday.

“That would have been a very interesting combination, especially for me as a fan of the sport. You need players who are good on the ball and who are well off the ball.

“Cristiano has become a very strong final player. He doesn’t need the ball that deep anymore. Messi and Neymar could have walked through midfield. That would have been interesting.”

When could CR7 and Messi make their debuts?

Ronaldo could make his second Manchester United on September 11 in a Premier League match against Newcastle at Old Trafford.

The Portugal captain is currently in Lisbon, ahead of the international break. United will play Wolves on Sunday before the players head off to represent their national teams.

Meanwhile, Messi has made PSG’s 22-man squad for the Ligue 1 trip to Reims on Sunday. The Argentine looks set to make his debut, although PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino has refused to confirm if he’ll start yet.
