After the first World Cup Qualifiers’ round, we can already say that this might be the worst Germany in history after all.

After Germany’s embarrassing defeat today against North Macedonia, the squad from Russia 2018 might no longer be considered the worst in history. We know there is still a long road ahead in the World Cup Qualifiers. Everybody also knows that Joachim Low won’t be part of the squad after the 2020 Euros next summer. However, this team could definitely miss their chance to qualify for the World Cup if they continue to play like they did tonight.

Today, they had a chance to lead Group J after the two initial victories against Iceland and Romania. Although they did a good job against the Icelandic squad, they didn’t perform as well against the Eastern European team. Joachim Low had the same issues he’s had over the last couple of years with his strikers lacking the killer instinct. Especially Timo Werner, who is completely to blame for tonight’s debacle.

Werner’s incredible missed chance.

After Goran Pandev’s goal right before halftime, Ilkay Gundogan confirmed his great moment by scoring the equalizer from the spot. However, the most important moments of the game took place in the last ten minutes. Timo Werner had a clear chance right in front of goal but his legs completely froze with not even the goalkeeper in sight to stop him. Minutes after that, Eljif Elmas scored the winner that made everybody’s jaws drop.

After tonight, Germany lost only their third match in World Cup Qualifiers’ history at home. The first one was a 0-1 loss against Portugal in 1985. In 2001, they lost 1-5 against England. Lastly, tonight will go down in history for losing against a C-List national team. Also, Armenia leads Group J after three games in the qualifiers. We know it’s still too early but this night will still go down in Germany’s dark football history books.
