The France legend is ready to re-start his career as a headcoach.

Thierry Henry has expressed interest in leading the United States in the next World Cup on home soil, but wants proper plans in place. The United States is looking for a new head coach after Gregg Berhalter’s contract expired at the end of last year.

Henry, who coached Montreal Impact, was an assistant to Roberto Martinez for Belgium during the World Cup in Qatar. Martinez left that role to take charge of Portugal. Henry would welcome the challenge of leading the 2026 World Cup co-hosts but wants the best possible chance to go far in three years’ time.

“I know the players and the league,” the Arsenal legend said. “Do I want to be a manager at any level? Yes, of course that is something I would like to do.”

The France legend wants to understand the plan and philosophy of the team. “We’ve seen that big teams cannot win it sometimes at home, and small teams often don’t do well. It isn’t because you’re going to host the competition you’re going to go far automatically,” Henry added.

Henry believes he has done his time as an assistant. “Being number two is not something I would like to do anymore. Massive respect to Roberto Martinez. He gave me an opportunity when no one else did, but I would like to have another chance,” Henry said.

Henry’s statements have excited fans, and many are curious to know if he will become the next coach of USMNT. The United States Soccer Federation is yet to name a permanent replacement for Berhalter, and assistant Anthony Hudson is currently in charge.

Henry coached Monaco in 2018-19 and MLS club Montreal Impact (now CF Montreal) in 2019-2. He also had two stints as an assistant coach for the Belgium national team under Martinez, who now coaches the Portuguese national team.

If given the chance, Henry would relish the opportunity to lead the USA team in the next World Cup on home soil, but he wants the proper plans and philosophy in place to ensure success.
