The former Arsenal and Barcelona striker has revealed his two favorites to win football’s most presitigious individual award in 2021.

Thierry Henry has named Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema and Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante as his picks for the Ballon d’Or.

That said, Henry is aware that it’s by no means a two-horse race. The Frenchman is certain former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi is in the mix after winning the Copa America. He also reckons Euro 2020 and Champions League success makes Chelsea midfielder Jorginho another threat.

Kante, like Jorginho, won the Champions League with Chelsea last season. While Benzema had another prolific campaign for Real Madrid and helped France win the 2020/21 Nations League.

Henry’s views on the Ballon d’Or race

“Let’s be realistic. I hope it can be him [Karim Benzema] or N’Golo Kante,” he told Le Journal du Dimanche.

“Robert Lewandowski would have won in 2020 if it had not been canceled. We can also talk about Jorginho because he won everything [Champions League and Euro 2020]. And there is Leo [Messi] who finally won the Copa America.”

France Football will announce the 2021 Ballon d’Or winner in a ceremony at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris on November 29.
