Despite signing for Chelsea only a few months ago, Thiago Silva is already discussing a contract extension following a stellar start to his Stamford Bridge life.

Thiago Silva joined Chelsea as a free agent in the summer after seeing out his contract at Paris Saint-Germain.

The veteran defender’s arrival has seen more than a few eyebrows raised. But, skeptics who questioned his age and his ability to adapt to the Premier League style already had to eat their words.

Silva has not only adjusted to English football in no time, but he has already become a pillar upon which Frank Lampard’s backline rests.

The 34-year-old has helped to turn Chelsea’s error-prone defense into a rock-solid unit. After demonstrating his significance to the team, Silva has earned high acclaims from everyone at Stamford Bridge.

Indeed, the Brazilian centre-back is one of the main reasons only top-placed Tottenham (9) have conceded fewer goals than Lampard’s side (10).

He is now in talks with Chelsea over extending his one-year contract, according to Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb. The parties are reportedly discussing fresh terms that would keep Silva in London until the summer of 2022.

In yet another masterclass showing, Silva helped Chelsea overcome Rennes 2-1 in France to qualify for the Champions League knock-out stage.

Olivier Giroud’s stoppage-time header sealed a tight 2-1 win at Roazhon Park, stretching the Blues’ unbeaten Group E start to four games (W3, D1).
