The Manchester United boss has endured his fair share of critics recently, which a former teammate believes comes from ‘pure jealousy’

Dwight Yorke believes criticism aimed at his former Manchester United teammate, and the club’s current manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stems from ‘pure jealousy’. Furthermore, he believes nobody wants the Norwegian to succeed.

After an underwhelming start to his second full season in charge, Solskjaer’s future was in doubt. The 47-year-old was even the odds-on favorite to become the first Premier League manager to get sacked this season at one stage.

Things have improved since a 3-2 Champions League defeat to RB Leipzig, though. United have lost just one of their 12 games in all competitions (W8 D3) to snatch top spot in the league standings and progress to the fourth-round of the FA Cup.

“There is a lot of jealousy towards Ole from within the game. People don’t want to see him be successful for some reason,” Yorke told The Sun.

“I have been looking at it and listening to people talk about the football club and it is pure jealousy.

“He did not do great at Cardiff and managed Molde then gets one of the top jobs in world football.

“People in football are begging for an opportunity and he has got this one, he’s won the jackpot.”

The former United striker added: “He has ignored all that talk, stuck to his beliefs and, let’s remember, used all his experience from his time at United as a player and working with the Under-23s.

“He has grasped this and now look at where they are.”
