Jamie Carragher says Liverpool must now be genuinely concerned after suffering a shock loss to Burnley at Anfield on Thursday night.

Jamie Carragher is starting to doubt if Liverpool are up to the task of defending their Premier League crown.

Prior to the Burnley match, the Reds were without a win in four games and surprisingly were not scoring goals as well.

The same Carragher claimed at the time there was no need for Liverpool to panic as they were still in the ‘title race’.

Barely two days after, the former Reds defender has changed his mind on his earlier comments. It comes in the wake of a shock defeat to Burnley which brought a 68-game unbeaten run at Anfield to a disappointing end.

Manager Jurgen Klopp already dismissed talk of a ‘title challenge’, and Carragher fears Liverpool might now have to settle for a top-four scrap.

“We talked about a lack of form and Jurgen Klopp has come out and defended his players and these Liverpool players have done so well for the club,” Carragher said as quoted by Goal after the Burnley game.

“The title is slipping away. It’s going to be really difficult at this moment in time. There’s six points between the top, it can still be recovered but the form they are in and the fixtures they have in the next couple of months.”

Liverpool are now four points off first-place Manchester United and their upcoming fixture list at the moment looks rather daunting.

Carragher continued: “They will start worrying about the top four rather than the title. They need to get back to winning games and scoring goals before pondering about the defence of their title.

“They’ve been so poor, he (Klopp) can’t believe what’s happening to Liverpool in the last few weeks, from the 7-0 win at Palace.”

“So many players are out of form at the same time, how they go about it (the games).

“There are so many teams this season challenging for the top four.”
