Bruno Fernandes is beginning to show traits that could see him become the next Man United captain, as per Dimitar Berbatov.

Bruno Fernandes selflessly giving his penalty to Marcus Rashford puts him in a good frame to become the Manchester United captain.

The Portuguese has grown to become an influential player in the Red Devils ranks since his arrival in January.

The latest decision from Fernandes could see his influence in the United dressing room rise even further, as per Berbatov.

The 26-year-old already had two goals to his name during his side’s 4-1 victory over Instanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League.

Fernandes then had the perfect opportunity to bag a hat-trick after United were awarded a penalty. Rather than take it, he called Marcus Rashford to do the honors and the Englishman made no mistake from the spot.

And Berbatov believes that act shows a whole lot of leadership traits from the Portuguese midfielder.

“Manchester United’s 4-1 win over Istanbul Basaksehir showed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team can produce good football,” Berbabtov said as quoted by Daily Star.

“Their motivation and concentration levels were high throughout the match and they deserved the win. They needed to perform like that after their previous match in the competition when they underestimated and lost against Basaksehir.”

“It was a great gesture when Bruno Fernandes, who was on a hat-trick, gave Marcus Rashford the penalty.”

“It was a captain’s move, it shows leadership quality and that he’s a guy who will always support his team-mates. In the dressing room after the game, I’m sure that his stock rose even more.”

It won’t be the first time Berbatov has singled out a positive trait from Fernandes.
