After a disastrous transfer saga for Jadon Sancho, there is one thing from Man United that left the Englishman completely bewildered.

Man United had a grand plan to lure Jadon Sancho to Old Trafford before the end of the transfer window. We are talking about a deal that was planned since before the pandemic started and it quickly changed as it progressed. Initially, the Red Devils were keen on paying €120 million for the England international without breaking a sweat.

Manchester United is one of the wealthiest clubs in the world after all. They have enough money to pay for a player like Jadon Sancho and their finances wouldn’t be affected. However, the whole paradigm changed when the pandemic started draining every club in the world. The Premier League took exception to this crisis, but Manchester United did take a hit that prevented them from signing players at elevated prices.

It was clear that Borussia Dortmund didn’t want Jadon Sancho to leave them yet, which is why they never even considered lowering their demands for him. But there’s one problem that remains. The player always thought he would be wearing red after the transfer window because nobody notified him that United wasn’t willing to meet Borussia Dortmund’s price.

The logic behind Dortmund’s demands.

Understanding why Borussia Dortmund never lowered their price for the player is very simple. Some think they did it because they didn’t care about the ongoing pandemic, which leaves them in a terrible position. Manchester United decided to offer less then what they requested and used the crisis as an excuse.

But Dortmund’s reasoning was that they simply didn’t want to let Sancho go. The German club considers him a key player in their plans for the future and they weren’t about to sell him for less than what he’s actually worth. If we are being real, there is no question that Sancho is currently Top 5 in the world in his position.

But Sporting Director, Sebastian Kehl explains it perfectly on Sport 1: “We agreed that we had to show a certain attitude. And €80m are simply not enough for such a player. We owed that to the club and the fans. I don’t want to give him up either. Without Jadon this team is worse.

“Jadon has trained well and professionally. He is happy to play football. Yes, someday he might leave for a new challenge but right now he is happy at Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Dortmund is happy to have him. He is here – and he will stay here. It was an important statement from the club because we have a certain responsibility.”
