The Barcelona newbie is set to feature in Barcelona’s clash against Getafe in La Liga according to the head coach Ronald Koeman.
Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman mentioned that Sergino Dest will potentially make his debut this weekend. After the end of the international break, the Catalan giants will face Getafe in La Liga.
Subsequently, Dest arrived in Barcelona for €21 million from the Dutch side Ajax.
The USMNT star played his first Barca game on October 4. While coming off the sideline in the 75th minute for Jordi Alba. Evidently, the Blaugrana drew 1-1 vs Sevilla.
Nevertheless, Dest is the first American player to clock in an official match for Barcelona. The 20-year-old is ready to make it to the starting XI as Alba is still recovering from a hamstring injury.
“First of all it was good to have him here for the training sessions,” Koeman said at a press conference on Friday. “We had the time to talk to him about the system of the team. But that system is not really different from what he played with Ajax.
“We know he can play on the right side as a right full-back. He can play in the left full-back position. We know Alba is not fit for tomorrow, it’s a possibility that he will start tomorrow.”
A good relationship.
Dest did not get to represent the US team as no fixtures took place. Moreover, Koeman hopes that the winger will continue to develop under the rule of big players.
“It’s good for his adaptation that he was here and not playing for the national team,” the Dutch manager continued. “That makes it easier for the boy to adapt to all the kind of stuff we have in Barcelona. Because everything is bigger here than it was in Amsterdam for him.
“It’s good to have him because he’s one of the players who will be the future for this club.”
In addition, this is not the first time that Dest and Koeman are together. The Dutch manager talked the full-back into staying with the Netherlands national team.
However, Dest did not listen to the suggestions of the gaffer. Though, at the same time, he does not have any hard feelings with Koeman.
