A goal-laden month for the Aston Villa winger has led to a surprising comparison with five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo.
Anwar El Ghazi ‘looks like the Cristiano Ronaldo of five or six years ago’, says Dutch pundit Valentijn Driessen, following his impressive run of form.
After struggling to break into the Aston Villa squad earlier this season, El Ghazi is back with a bang. The winger has started in each of the club’s last four league games and scored four goals in the process.
His brilliant form has silenced critics and led to comparisons with Ronaldo, a player who El Ghazi has hailed as a ‘great example’ in the past.
“If you play at the top of the Premier League, you are a potential player for the Dutch national team,” Driessen said on Dutch podcast Kick-Off.
“When he played in the youth of Sparta [Rotterdam], he already looked a bit like [Cristiano] Ronaldo.
“He has indicated, for example, that he may have left Ajax too soon.
“When you see last weekend’s goal against Crystal Palace … Great. Now and then you see flashes and you think: this looks like the Cristiano Ronaldo of five or six years ago.”
