The likes of Ronaldo, Ozil and Varane all feature as part of the 10 most expensive players sold in Real Madrid’s history.
Florentino Perez has never been shy to splash the cash on a fancy new signing for Real Madrid, but he’s never been immune to the lure of selling one of his own star players for a good price either.
The Real Madrid president has made a load of cash from selling players in the past. Cristiano Ronaldo is arguably his most profitable venture. He signed the Portuguese ace in 2009 aged 24 for €94 million and then sold him nine years later for a sweet €117m after 15 trophies, a club-record 450 goals, jersey sales, sponsorship deals and more.
According to Transfermarkt, Ronaldo remains Real Madrid’s most expensive sale of all time. Angel Di Maria (€75m) and Alvaro Morata (€66m) round off the top three.
Ronaldo’s other former teammates Mesut Ozil, Mateo Kovacic, Achraf Hakimi, Gonzalo Higuain and Raphael Varane also made the cut.
Despite Varane being out of contract in 2022, Perez still sold him to Manchester United for €40m. Hence, the defender became Real Madrid’s ninth most expensive sale ever. Martin Odegaard, who has just joined Arsenal in a deal worth €35m, completes the top 10 list.
