Ben Chilwell suggests his side’s squad depth will come in handy in a season with a congested schedule of domestic and continental fixtures.

Chelsea collected all three points as they scored three goals to sink Burnley in Saturday’s Premier League outing.

Timo Werner was found on the scoreline for the match at Turf Moor, as was Hakim Ziyech and Kurt Zouma.

Werner was not Frank Lampard’s initial choice for the starting XI. Lampard originally had Christian Pulisic in his line-up but the American forward tweaked his hamstring in the warm-up.

Pulisic’s injury comes as a blow for the Blues, but Ben Chilwell has an optimistic view of the unfortunate incident.

The left-back insists his side being able to replace a key player only goes on to prove Chelsea’s strength in depth, and that it can prove to be a much beneficial advantage in the long run.

“Unfortunately, Christian got injured in the warm-up and we are all disappointed for him, but when you’ve got Timo to come in it’s a positive and shows what strength in depth we have,” Chilwell told the club’s website.

“That competition pushes us all, and it’s one of the key components to a good squad. We have a lot of good players, two or three in each position who are fighting for the shirt. That will help push us forward.”
