The Red Devils got a fourth win in five league games by beating Aston Villa at the weekend.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag singled out the ‘brilliant’ Victor Lindelof for his performance against Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins on Sunday.

Watkins, one of the Premier League’s most in-form attackers, couldn’t add to his 14-goal tally. Lindelof kept him in check, staring alongside Luke Shaw in central defense for the third straight game. The Swede also denied Douglas Luiz with a goal-line clearance in the final 10 minutes.

“A good three points but I think an impressive performance from Manchester United,” Ten Hag told BBC after the club’s 1-0 victory.

“We were magnificent on the ball, had good possession, and pressed well. In the second half, you want to go 2-0 ahead but we didn’t so it’s always going to be a tough finish.

“[Victor Lindelof] played brilliant. He was totally in control in the area around Watkins.”

Bruno Fernandes scored the match-winner in the 39th minute of the match. The victory moved United seven points clear of fifth-placed Liverpool in fourth. They are two points behind Newcastle in third. A trip to Brighton next awaits Ten Hag’s side on Thursday.
