Underwhelming results and controversial decisions by the Glazers have affected Man Utd fans’ relationship with the club.
Erik ten Hag has urged Manchester United to regain their fans’ trust by delivering convincing performances.
The Dutchman have arrived at Old Trafford with massive objectives both on and off the pitch. Apart from a few poor displays, United have managed to improve their form under the former Ajax boss.
However, Ten Hag believes building a collective sense of “togetherness” would be crucial for their success.
“It was definitely one of our plans [to repair the relationship], part of our plan that we had,” Ten Hag told ESPN. “You need a connection with the fans. Manchester United is that big in the world and you have to show commitment and make an engagement.
“You have to build a togetherness because also, we want to act like that on the pitch as well.
“The team has to understand that and everyone around Manchester United has to understand that the fans are there for us. You play football for your fans and we have to be aware of it.”
Man Utd have climbed to fifth place in the Premier League table after their poor start to the season.
The Red Devils will face Fulham in their last pre-World Cup game on Sunday.
