A first-minute goal was enough for the Swiss to beat the European giants.

Switzerland defeated Portugal 1-0 in their UEFA Nations League clash on Sunday. The hosts displayed a solid defensive performance to keep Portugal at bay in Genève.

No Ronaldo, no party!

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice when Portugal smashed Switzerland 4-0 last week. However, Fernando Santos decided to rest the Manchester United superstar for the reverse match.

Switzerland shocked the guests with a first-minute goal from Haris Seferovic. Following a cross from Silvan Widmer, the Benfica star made it 1-0 with a precise header.

Portugal were not able to create enough goalscoring chances during the first half. However, they looked much improved after the interval, putting more and more pressure on Switzerland’s backline.

The guests dominated the possession and came close to scoring several times. However, an incredible performance from Switzerland’s goalkeeper Jonas Omlin prevented them from snatching the equalizer.

The defeat puts Portugal behind Spain, who lead the Group A2 table after the first four matchdays of the tournament. On the other hand, Switzerland remain fourth despite their impressive victory.
