CIES Football Observatory have released a list of the most valuable players in world football for 2021 and the top name is an ‘unexpected’ one.
A new report by the CIES Football Observatory has put Marcus Rashford as the most valuable player in world football.
With a value of £150m, the Manchester United forward was deemed the most expensive player in the game.
The CIES Football Observatory took into account factors like age and length of years left on a player’s contract to determine current worth.
The impact of the coronavirus also played a part in the list, with Mbappe losing value by almost £100m. Only last six months ago, the PSG star was valued at £234.25m but has seen his worth drop to £135m.
The main reason for the decline though is the fact that the length of his contract is almost up. His current deal expires in the summer of 2022.
Asides Rashford, another Manchester United player in Bruno Fernandes soared up to fourth place after an impressive 2020 for the Red Devils.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, Raheem Sterling, Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Mo Salah, Ruben Dias and Sadio Mane are some of the other Premier League stars in the top 15.
