Villa beat Arsenal to Buendia signing

Arsenal have suffered a huge transfer blow as Emi Buendia edges closer to a surprise move to Aston Villa.

The 2020/21 Championship Player of the Season will swap Norwich City for Villa in a club-record fee of around £33million with add-ons. Arsenal made a late bid – but it was too little, too late.

Villa didn’t hesitate and acted quickly to seal a transfer deal that could eventually be worth £40million. Buendia had a medical in his native Argentina on Saturday. [The Telegraph]

Manchester United to save £26.5m on Sancho

The Red Devils plan to revisit their interest in signing Jadon Sancho after a year-long delay.

Borussia Dortmund’s asking price of £108million in 2020 was too much. This time around, however, the German giants will accept an £81.5million offer – a £26.5million cut from last year’s price.

The new fee will still be a club-record deal for United, but playing the waiting game has still paid dividends. [Mirror]

Barcelona consider improved Wijnaldum offer

Paris Saint-Germain eclipsed Barcelona’s initial offer for Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.

The 30-year-old’s representatives held talks with Barcelona in Catalonia for two days. A deal seemed imminent until PSG threw their hat in the ring. The Parisians have reportedly tabled a ‘vastly superior financial offer’ to Wijnaldum.

Barcelona could make an improved offer in a last-ditch attempt to avoid Wijnaldum, who is a free agent this summer, slipping through their grasp. [Marca]

Mourinho sets three Roma goalkeeper targets

Jose Mourinho is wasting no time in laying out transfer targets for AS Roma to pursue.

The former Tottenham boss has already laid eyes on Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka and he’s now set Roma three goalkeeper targets in Hugo Lloris (Spurs), Wojciech Szczesny (Juventus), and Rui Patricio (Wolves). [La Gazetta dello Sport – in Italian]

Lenglet to continue at Barcelona

Despite Eric Garcia’s summer arrival, Clement Lenglet has no plans to leave Barcelona. The French defender, who only signed a contract extension until 2026 last season, insists he will be at Camp Nou in 2021/22.
