Real Madrid to swap Varane for Van de Beek?

Manchester United want to sign Raphael Varane in this summer’s transfer window, but just how far are they willing to go?

Despite wanting to keep Varane, Real Madrid are resigned to losing the defender. And with only a year left on his contract, the club chiefs can sell him now or lose him for nothing next summer. United have approached Los Blancos and may have just the man to sweeten the deal in Donny van de Beek.

It’s alleged Real Madrid are interested in taking the midfielder on loan as part of a £50 million deal for Varane. An agreement would include a buy obligation at the end of next season. [The Sun]

PSG make their move for Messi

Lionel Messi is officially a free agent, and Paris Saint-Germain have wasted no time in attempting to pull off ‘the signing of the year’.

The Parisians have sent an offer to Messi, which is superior to the one offered by Barcelona financially speaking. The club’s chairman, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, and sporting director, Leonardo, are also no rush. They’re prepared to wait until the Copa America ends before stepping up their efforts to sign the six-time Ballon d’Or winner. [AS – in Spanish]

Guendouzi close to completing Marseille move

Marseille are closing in on a loan deal to sign Matteo Guendouzi for next season, which includes an obligation to buy next summer. Arsenal could receive around £10 million in total – £850k for the loan and £9m for a transfer.

William Saliba could join Guendouzi, who spent last season on loan at Hertha BSC in the Bundesliga, at the Stade Velodrome. Talks remain ongoing between Arsenal and Marseille on this deal. [Goal]

De Gea makes Manchester United transfer decision

Despite Tom Heaton’s return to Manchester United providing extra competition, David de Gea is determined to stay.

The Red Devils now have three goalkeepers – Dean Henderson, Lee Grant, and Heaton – all ready to challenge De Gea for the No.1 jersey. The competition is fiercer than ever for next season.

But De Gea, who has two years left on his £375,000-per-week contract, has no plans to walk out. [The Times]

Arsenal face competition from Liverpool for Sanches

The Renato Sanches transfer saga is heating up as Liverpool join Arsenal in the race to sign the Lille midfielder.

Reports last week claimed Arsenal had contacted Lille over Sanches and requested to be kept updated on any developments. And now Liverpool have reportedly thrown their hat in the ring. [Onze Mondial – in French]
