The 61-year-old Spaniard was a hugely unpopular appointment in the summer given his Liverpool past and prior remarks on labelling Everton a ‘small club’ while he was in charge at Anfield.

Andriy Shevchenko’s two-month spell as Genoa manager has officially ended following a poor run of results.
The former Ukraine boss claimed only one win from his 11 games in charge, settling for three draws and losing seven times. His poor results saw Genoa slide from 17th down to 19th-place in the Serie A table, five points away from safety.
