Messi could reunite with another one of his former Barcelona teammates at Inter Miami.
Inter Miami manager Tata Martino has confirmed the club are considering a move for Luis Suarez.
Suarez was reportedly eager to link up with Messi after the Argentine’s summer switch to the Inter Miami. However, Brazilian side Gremio refused to allow the 36-year-old’s exit.
Having already announced his decision to leave Gremio this December, Suarez is now one of Inter Miami’s top targets for the next season.
On Wednesday, Martino said of a possible move for Suarez: “Within our analysis of the upcoming season and the needs we may have, we have an analysis with Luis and an analysis without Luis.
“So when the moment arrives to make Suarez’s situation with respect to Inter Miami official, we’ll be prepared to go in the corresponding direction.”
Suarez has registered nine goals and six assists in his 22 Brazilian Serie A appearances this season. The former Barcelona star’s contract runs for another year, but he has already decided to join a new club when the season ends in December.
“I feel that next year I will not be able to perform due to my fitness and the high demands of the Brazilian championship, which is why the club and I have spoken about ending my contract [with Gremio] a year early,” he said in a statement.
