Lionel Messi wants to cut short his Camp Nou stay and clubs are looking at different models to sign the Argentine attacker.

When the best player of all time is available on the transfer market, you do whatever is necessary to sign him. This is the basis of VfB Stuttgart’s rationale behind their bid for signing Messi.

The German Bundesliga club have started a crowdfunding campaign to finance Messi’s arrival at the Mercedes-Benz Arena. The target set for the fund is €900 million, €700 million for the transfer and €200 million for the wages.

The crowdfund has been started by Viva con Agua, “a non-profit organization committed to ensuring that all people worldwide have access to clean drinking water””

The statement on the crowdfund read: “We VfB fans are collecting money to pay for Lionel Messi’s transfer. In the event that the planned amount is not reached on time or Lionel Messi joins another club, 100% of the money raised will be donated to Viva con Agua.”

So far, only €424 have been collected by the fans to fund the move. Stuttgart have a tough battle on their hands.

They will come up against mega-rich owners of Inter Milan, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain for Messi’s services. Manchester City are in the lead with even Barcelona presidential candidate Toni Freixa tipping Messi to a move to the Etihad Stadium.
