Newcastle’s manager Steve Bruce spoke ahead of this Wednesday’s clash with Leeds and updated his players’ condition and availability for the game.

The Magpies suffered a serious outbreak of Coronavirus after the last international break. The club had at least five players and two staff members who tested positive. Newcastle United’s misfortune resulted in the first postponed Premier League match of the season.

Almost two weeks later, the club is still suffering the consequences of this pandemic. Ahead of the Wednesday night match against Leeds United, Steve Bruce gave an important update on the team’s welfare. Although he hasn’t revealed which players tested positive, the manager disclosed which of the first-team members has overcome Covid-19.

“One is back – that’s Fernandez,” Bruce said. “He’s tested negative and I can say that because he himself revealed that he’s had the virus. But he’s OK now.”

“(Players and staff have had) had three negative tests in the past six days so it does look as if we’ve overcome it. But we’ve got two players in particular who are not well at all and two members of staff who are still poorly,” he added.

Steve Bruce also left a warning to anyone who isn’t taking Covid-19 seriously. The team’s condition reflects on the country’s complicated situation.

“If you ever underestimated this thing then don’t, because you’re talking about elite professionals here and the way it got a hold of everybody was quite scary stuff. For everybody out there, for goodness’ sake stay safe. I know it’s Christmas but after what we’ve just witnessed then you’ve got to be careful.”

Moreover, the Newcastle manager also assured that Ryan Frasier will be available for tomorrow’s game, as the player had sustained a hamstring injury last month.
