New Liverpool signing Thiago Alcantara appeared to outperform every Chelsea player in just 45 minutes on the pitch.
Thiago Alcantara has shown early signs of his worth with a promising display for the Reds on his debut. It all ended on a good note for the Reds as they strolled to a 2-0 victory over Chelsea.
The Spaniard didn’t score or assist but made his presence known on the pitch. He was a half-time substitute for injured captain Jordan Henderson and was influential in the Red’s dominance of the half.
Regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world, Thiago embarrassed all Chelsea players with a brilliant stat.
According to Opta, the midfielder made 75 passes in the second half. That tally not only outclassed Chelsea’s players but is also the most passes by a player who played 45 minutes or fewer since passing data was recorded.
What makes it all the more impressive is that Liverpool only signed Thiago on Friday and he had only one training session with the club.
Prior to his move, the jury was out on the midfielder to deliver the heavy expectations placed on him.
It’s still early days but Jurgen Klopp would be pleased with what he has seen from his new signing so far.
With Jordan Henderson appearing to pick up a knock, Thiago is now in line to start for Liverpool when they take on Arsenal next Monday.
