Given how they collapsed against West Ham, pundit Adrian Durham says it’s too early to label Tottenham genuine title contenders.

Tottenham was all but strolling to a victory against West Ham but got undone in a short period of time.

For the first time in Premier League history, a team came from three goals down after 80 minutes to secure a point. The game ended in a 3-3 scoreline.

Prior to the game, many have waxed lyrical about Tottenham being genuine title challengers under a certain Jose Mourinho.

Their 6-1 thrashing of Manchester United only sent out a stronger message to the above notion. Spurs have also recorded a 7-2 win this season as well as another 4-0 win in the Premier League.

While they are firing on the attacking front, Durham says it is their defensive woes that would derail their chances of a title challenge.

“So as optimistic as some Tottenham fans are, and I think a lot of other fans – Chelsea, Arsenal – from title contender clubs were looking at Spurs under Jose.” Durham said to talkSPORT.

“Looking at what he’s getting out of Harry Kane, looking at Son’s consistent performances as well and thinking with the signings they’ve made Spurs might actually make a dent in the title challenge this year.”

“And then we see that [against West Ham] yesterday, a capitulation with 10 minutes left and we realise the Spursyness has not gone out of Spurs.”

On the other hand, Tim Sherwood still rates Tottenham as genuine title challengers. With Van Dijk’s recent injury, the ex-Spurs boss says the title race is wide open.

“Well, why not?” he replied when asked if Tottenham can win the League.

“They’ve got so many players, they had seven on the bench yesterday and they had Carlos Vinicius who was the only one who wasn’t an international footballer.”

“They’ve got Dele Alli who can’t even get changed, Danny Rose hasn’t got a squad number, they’ve got a massive amount of quality in their squad.”

“They’ve got a manager who is used to winning, Jose knows how to win things.”

“If Jose gets a nice solid base behind those three (Son, Kane and Bale) and you’ve got Hugo Lloris who is one of the best goalkeepers in the league, Tottenham have got every chance.”
