Harry Maguire can be expected to get back in the England squad next month after his withdrawal last month, notifies Gareth Southgate.

Harry Maguire was handed a 21-month suspended prison sentence following an alleged incident on the Greek island of Syros.

The Manchester United defender was arrested after being found guilty of aggravated assault on a police officer, swearing, resisting arrest, and repeated attempts of bribery.

The 27-year old center-back, however, maintains his innocence and launched an appeal to the Greek court system against the charges on him. In an interview with BBC later, he insisted that his “conscience is clear” saying he feared for his life.

Regardless, he was omitted from the England squad for their upcoming Nations League matches against Iceland and Denmark.

However, manager Gareth Southgate now suggests Maguire would ‘absolutely’ return for October’s fixtures against Wales, Belgium, and Denmark.

Southgate said, as per Sky Sports: “It’s been clearly a really difficult period for him and I think the last few days have been very important for him to be able to relax and get away from all the attention – mentally get a rest, because of course, he had a short break anyway but then the events that happened in Greece really dominated that.

“I think he needed that switch off and he’ll be able to go back to his club, and absolutely we would be looking to involve him in October.”
