Southampton are ready to make a request asking that Mike Dean or Lee Mason never officiates any of their games.
Southampton have been left fuming with decisions from referees over their last two games. The latest comes after Mike Dean made a number of questionable calls in their 9-0 thrashing to Manchester United.
Prior to that, Lee Mason also saw the anger from the Saints fans after some debatable decisions as well in their defeat to Aston Villa.
Southampton lost 1-0 to Villa on Saturday but were denied a penalty for what appeared a clear handball against Matty Cash. Danny Ings then saw a goal controversially ruled out for offside.
Their woes were compounded in their 9-0 loss to United on Tuesday night in which they ended the game with nine men.
Southampton were denied another goal following the tightest offside margins. Che Adams’ early effort was ruled out. At the time, the Saints were 4-0 down and down to ten men following Alexandre Jankewitz’s early red card.
They then had Jan Bednarek harshly sent off for bringing down Anthony Martial for the penalty Bruno Fernandes scored to make it 7-0. It was the most controversial period of the game and many say it was never a red. Even Manchester United boss Ole Solskjaer admitted Bednarek should not have been sent off.
As per Radio Solent’s Adam Blackmore, Southampton have now requested that Mike Dean and Lee Mason do not officiate any of their upcoming fixtures in the near future.
The Saints perhaps feel both referees have an agenda against them as they are usually undone and end up losing games they take charge of.
It will be interesting to see what becomes of this but it is a rather bold claim by Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side.
