The Saints ended Arsenals’ eight-game winning streak across all competitions.

Southampton held Arsenal to a 1-1 draw in their Premier League game on Sunday. An inspiring performance from the hosts saw the Gunners register their first draw of the season.

Man City close in on top spot!

Arsenal made a brilliant start to the game, snatching an early opener through Granit Xhaka in the 11th minute.

The Swiss midfielder converted a cutback from Ben White to put Arsenal ahead with a precise finish. The Gunners came close to extending their lead several times before half-time.

However, similar to their last week’s match against Leeds United, they suffered a sudden dip in form in the second period.

Southampton took control of the game, scoring the equalizer through Stuart Armstrong five minutes after the hour-mark.

Arsenal reclaimed the possession to push for another goal. But their attacks lacked enough intensity to get them past the Saints’ backline.

Arsenal’s lead over Manchester City at the top of the league table is down to two points after the draw. Mikel Arteta’s men must take on PSV Eindhoven in the Europa League before facing Nottingham Forest in the Premier League next weekend.
