Let’s have a glance at the player ratings of this Premier League fixture between Southampton and Aston Villa from St. Mary’s Stadium.

Southampton truly had a very difficult start to the new Premier League season, but evolution has been seen in the past few games. Before facing Aston Villa this evening, the Saints had captured seven points in their last three league fixtures.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men were the strong favourites coming into this match, but the visitors also showed threat as they were in need of points. Dean Smith’s side has been struggling to win games having lost each of their last four in the league.

Although plenty of goals were expected in this Premier League encounter, a solo net buster was enough for the night. Adam Armstrong scored a rocket shot in the opening three minutes of the game which was enough to settle the tie.

The Saints were a tad bit sloppy in the initial stage of the match even after scoring an early goal. But after a halftime talk from their boss, things looked pretty solid on their end for the next 45 minutes.

The Villans made constant attempts to find the much-needed equaliser but failed to break the ice. With this win, Southampton moves two steps upward in the 12th spot in the league, whereas, Aston Villa stays in the 15th position.
