The Red Devils boss opened up about his troubling circumstances after a week filled with intense speculation over his future.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plans to keep on fighting and has backed himself to emulate Sir Alex Ferguson’s success at Manchester United.

Despite a horrific 5-0 defeat to Liverpool last weekend, the Norwegian’s job is safe for now. He will again lead the team for Saturday’s trip to Tottenham in the Premier League.

That said, doubts over Solskjaer’s future are greater than ever. While keen for him to succeed, the United board still held talks over his position in the week in Carrington. Key members, including the club’s legendary former manager Ferguson, were present.

But while confirming that Ferguson was indeed at the training base, Solskjaer clarified that the Scot was there for commercial reasons.

Asked in a press conference if he can emulate Ferguson by surviving a difficult moment as manager and lead the club to silverware, Solskjaer replied: “Yes, on both accounts.”

“We had a commercial date, and Sir Alex came to do some commercial stuff. I met him and spoke to him just for a brief moment because he was in there with Cristiano Ronaldo.

“I’ve been through some very bad moments here as a player, when I’ve been a coach and a manager as well. I’ve had to deal with setbacks. There have been two or three crises, at least, since I became the manager here. One thing I can say is, I’ll always give it a good shot and fight back.”

Solskjaer added: “It’s been a difficult week, of course. We’ve had to deal with the result and performance against Liverpool.

“That’s something footballers have to deal with, and we have to look forward to the next game and make sure we are ready for that game. We’ve had a good week on the training field.”
