Calls have been made for a goalkeeping change at Old Trafford following yet another error-prone performance from the Spaniard.
Ole Gunnar Solksjaer has warned David de Gea that his place in the Manchester United starting XI isn’t safe following his blunders in the six-goal thriller against Everton.
The opening 45 minutes were almost entirely in the favor of Manchester United, who carried a 2-0 lead into the break. However, they were pegged back by Everton in the second half as the match ended 3-3.
It was a disastrous display by the hosts’ backline including De Gea. The Spanish shot-stopper pushed the ball out straight in the path of Abdoulaye Doucoure for Everton’s opener and then made a feeble attempt to block Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s 95th minute equalizer.
There have been calls to replace the player who was once ranked among the world’s finest and has won four Player of the Year awards with the club with Dean Henderson, who returned to Old Trafford in the summer following two successful seasons with Sheffield United.
“Every player has to earn the right to earn his place, of course,” said Solskjaer when asked about De Gea’s position, via MEN.
“We’re a squad with competition and that applies to absolutely every single one in the team – and that is the same for every single one of us.”
