Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he was pleased with his side’s performance as United beat Everton to advance to the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
Ole Solskjaer watched on with delight as United convincingly beat Everton 2-0 at Goodison Park on Wednesday night.
Despite the changes made by the Norwegian manager, the Red Devils proved to be too strong for their opponents.
After a number of missed chances in the first half, late goals from Edinson Cavani and substitute Anthony Martial saw Solskaer’s men get the better of the Toffees.
Solskjaer said he was disappointed his side didn’t grab a goal or two in the first half but remained pleased with their overall performance.
“It was a very good start,” he told the club’s website. “In the first 20, 25 minutes I thought we were excellent, we should have been one, two or three up, but Robin Olsen made a few good saves and kept them in the game.”
“Then they had a good spell, just before half-time, but in the second half, I thought we dominated. I can’t remember Dean [Henderson] having a touch on the ball really. We almost did an Everton on them, we were in the box, we had corners, we had set plays, crosses, and chances.
“I’m a bit disappointed we didn’t go one or two goals up, but it was an excellent performance in the second half as well.”
With United set to face rivals Manchester City in the semi-finals, Solskjaer is already looking forward to that game.
“It’s the worst game to lose, probably, a semi-final. At least when you get to a final, you get that feeling, the build-up, so we’ve got to do everything we can to get to the semi-final in a good state. Of course, we’ve got many league games before then.”
Having lost three semi-finals last season, Solskjaer will be hoping to avoid a repeat of the past with a win over City to advance to a final for the first time in his United career.
