Solskjaer & Lingard rate Manchester United's title hopes

The Red Devils have enjoyed a fine start to the new Premier League season as they chase their first trophy since 2017.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Jesse Lingard have opened up about Manchester United’s chances of ending a four-year wait for silverware this season.

Lingard came off the bench on Sunday to score the match-winner as United came from behind to nick a 2-1 comeback win at West Ham and maintain their strong start to the season.

The 20-time English champions sit level on 13 points with Chelsea and Liverpool in the Premier League table. Because of an inferior goal difference, United are in third place overall. They are also competing in the Champions League, EFL Cup, and FA Cup this season.

Solskjaer staying level-headed on title chances

When asked about United’s title chances in London, Solskjaer reminded reporters it was only a few days ago his future was up in the air.

“You’re not gonna get me on that one now,” said the Red Devils boss. “It’s five games into the season. I was probably down and out and lost my job yesterday. That’s the way it is at Man United.

“We deserved three points. It’s a hard place to come here. Hopefully, these points can make a difference. Let’s see [about the title] when we get towards April and May.”

Lingard is confident

Unlike Solskjaer, Lingard was more upbeat about a potential challenge for silverware for this season.

“The main aim is to obviously win a trophy this season and I think we’ve got the squad depth to do that,” the midfielder told MUTV. “The talent, everyone’s hungry to play and everyone’s working hard in training to get in that matchday squad.

“Everyone’s always ready to play, so the subs have got to be ready to make a difference. They’re always tough games against West Ham and to play them back to back is a little bit different, but we’ll go into that game full of confidence.”
