Ole Solskjaer has hailed Scott McTominay after his strike in extra-time saw Manchester United edge West Ham in the FA Cup.

Ole Solskjaer says he was pleased with the ‘authority’ displayed by McTominay as he came off the bench to score the winner for United.

The 24-year-old broke the deadlock seven minutes into extra time. That strike earned the Red Devils a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals and it also took his goal tally for the season up to seven.

Seven goals for McTominay this season means he has now scored more goals than Paul Pogba, Donny van de Beek, Fred, and Nemanja Matic combined in the current campaign.

It appears the Scottish midfielder was once a striker, and Solskjaer wasn’t surprised to see such a finish from him.

“Scott has really, really developed that part of his game this season,” the United boss said as quoted by Goal.

“Of course we let him go into the box more often, unleash him. You see that he doesn’t mind being in those positions. He’s a very good striker of the ball and a very clinical finisher.”

“As he was a forward or a striker in his younger days, you can see his authority when he gets a chance to finish.”

Solskjaer was also pleased with his side’s response after their setback against Everton at the weekend.

“We needed to have a good result and a good feeling after today because we were low after Everton game. It’s hard to take but they were really focused and did the job.

“Of course you want to win every game. We want to challenge and we want to go to the final. That’s what we’re here at Man United for. Sometimes you’re lucky with draw in the cup – we haven’t been that lucky – but obviously, we move another step closer to the final.”
