Solskjaer decided to not purchase any defenders at Manchester United, though it seemed like his decision almost cost the club a loss.

Manchester United gaffer Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expressed his decision to not add a center-back player during the transfer window. Although, this caused the team to concede goals in the away game on Saturday.

Brighton and Hove Albion equalized the game on Saturday to 2-2 in the injury time. This placed intense pressure on Man Utd to try and gain the lead in such a short time.

As Neal Maupay received a handball, Bruno Fernandes switched the final score to 3-2 in the 100th minute allowing for an amazing win.

In any case, the team lost their Premier League opener at a home game to Crystal Palace. This has led to more defensive issues as the topic arose again making it a subject of discussion after the last whistle on the south coast.

Neal Maupay and Solly March both managed to score for their team. Brighton scored in the 95th minute of the injury time to equalize it to 2-2.

The home side seemed to struggle to score as they kept hitting the woodwork and had 18 attempts at goal.

Leandro Trossard was especially unfortunate. He now turns into the first player to hit the woodwork three times in a Premier League game.

The last time this happened was in October 2006, with Cristiano Ronaldo. Solskjaer had faith in Victor Lindelof notwithstanding his challenging outing against Palace.

“We’ve got many defenders here and I put Eric (Bailly) on to bolster the defense, following the runs of Trossard and Maupay,” Solskjaer said in his media conference.

“For me, we’ve got enough good center-backs here at the moment.

“When you concede chances and concede goals, there are two different things you can look at – it’s either the team shape or are there any individual mistakes.

“We’re not in our best shape of form, our shape isn’t there, we’re not sharp enough to stop crosses or follow the runs.

“We’re a little bit behind, that’s more structural mistakes than individual mistakes. I thought Victor did well today.”

A word from media reports indicates Man Utd is linking with a new defender per Goal. Left-back Alex Telles from Porto.

Solskjaer guaranteed that the current players will improve as they play more matches after a shortened pre-season. Man Utd will face Brighton on the field once again on Wednesday, this time in the EFL Cup.

“We’ve got to be honest enough to say they created the most chances. Maybe 50-50 possession but they had loads of shots, big chances and that’s not what we want. We need to improve a lot in the weeks coming forward,” the Norwegian boss said.

“The spirit and character of the boys I don’t question at all, the spirit is there. The sharpness and fitness might not be, but it is going to come.

“We’ve got three or four weeks to catch up and the more games we play, the more 90 minutes we get, we’ll be sharper and sharper.”
