Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has described new signing Alex Telles as a “fighter and a winner” who will improve the team.
United have now confirmed the signing of Telles from Porto for a fee of around 18m.
Earlier today, the Brazilian defender put pen to paper on a four-year deal with an option of a further year with the Red Devils.
Given United’s current state in defence at the moment, a lot is already expected from Telles after his deal became official.
For Solskjaer, the arrival of the defender sees the club finally get a player in their sights for a while. The United boss is confident the new signing will be a positive addition to his squad.
“First and foremost, I welcome Alex (Telles)to United,” Solskjaer told the club’s website. “He is a player we have been tracking for some time and his performances over the past few years are exactly what we are looking for.
“He is a fighter and a winner and will add real determination and competition to the squad.”
“Alex has the qualities, both as a player and as a person, that we want here at Manchester United.”
The arrival of Telles will put pressure on current first-choice left-back Luke Shaw. The 25-year-old came under fire for his display in the humiliating 6-1 loss to Tottenham.
The new Brazilian arrival will be in contention to make his debut when United take on Newcastle in their next Premier League fixture.
