Despite going through controversial incidents during the year, Solskjaer supports Manchester United’s central defender.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised Harry Maguire for his efforts during the course of this year with Manchester United. The defender had a tough summer due to controversial events involving assault and bribery in Greece. Subsequently, the 28-year-old made a poor start to the new season, and as did United.

However, Maguire bounced back in form along with the team as the Red Devils slipped into the top four in the Premier League. And Solskjaer is galvanized by the England international’s ascending performance despite all the issues.

A man of character.

“Harry is a strong character and a very good player,” Solskjaer said at a press conference ahead of the game with Wolves on Tuesday. “He’s led from the back. If you put it that way, he’s really been putting himself forward and always wants to play. He never wants a rest. He’s really improved throughout the season, with the team of course. But we can see more and more maturity and leadership from Harry in every game.”

Furthermore, Ole also supported Gareth Southgate’s backing for Maguire regarding the incident in Mykonos, Greece. “Of course I support Harry,” Solskjaer said. “He’s such a good human being. Harry is in there, leading the dressing room. Very humble and hardworking and he knows he has to hold his hand up. And has led from the front or the back, whichever way you want to say it, he’s really gone out there and been a leader in the team and in the dressing room too.”

“I’ll always support him and I think Gareth will always support him. And all he wants to do is keep on playing football.”
