A defensive disaster class saw Manchester United record their biggest home defeat since 2011 at the hands of a free-scoring Tottenham.
Manchester United drew first blood as they opened the scoring in only the second minute of the match, but their good fortune started taking a drastic turn shortly after.
Tanguy Ndombele leveled the scoreline two minutes after Bruno Fernandes had put his side on the front foot from the penalty spot. Ndombele’s equalizer came as a result of some horrendous defensive from Luke Shaw and, more importantly, Harry Maguire.
A strike from Son Heung-min then saw Spurs take the lead.
If Man United were not already having much trouble, they were reduced to 10 men as Anthony Martial was sent off after he got physical with Erik Lamela during their confrontation in the penalty box.
A few minutes later, Harry Kane also got on the scoresheet while Son added his second to make sure Spurs go into the half-time break with a healthy 3-goal lead.
Serge Aurier cleared any lingering doubts about his side’s imminent win as he made a darting run into the box before firing the ball past a helpless David de Gea.
The referee pointed straight to the spot when Sergi Reguilon was brought down in the box by Paul Pogba. De Gea, despite going the right way, failed to stop the penalty kick as Kane grabbed his second of the evening.
Man United suffer their worst defeat at Old Trafford ever since Man City beat them with the same scoreline back in 2011.
All in all, it was an utterly dominating display by Jose Mourinho’s men, who moved to the fifth position in the league table after the 6-1 win. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, meanwhile, drop to 16th place.
